Creative Journey
My creative identity was shaped by contrasts—from the diverse soundscape of my Florida childhood to the quieter landscape of rural Idaho, from DIY punk shows to graduate seminars on Victorian literature. Each transition taught me something about the power of unexpected combinations.
-
My creative foundation was built in 1990s coastal Florida—my mom and I sharing Motown classics and Tina Turner on long car rides, my stepbrother blasting NOFX and Pennywise from his bedroom, my stepdad playing The Doors and Pink Floyd in the dining room. These different rhythms and voices showed me early that creativity thrives in unexpected combinations.
-
Moving to rural Idaho at age ten brought profound culture shock and musical isolation. But limitations breed invention—when I rediscovered punk rock in high school, its raw energy and defiant spirit spoke directly to my sense of displacement. In college, I carved my own path, balancing nine classes per semester with evening and weekend shifts as a CNA in group homes while touring across forty states. Between managing shows, studying for exams, and caring for adults with disabilities, I learned that creativity isn't confined to art—it's about finding ways forward when there isn't an obvious path.
-
After graduation, I found myself with more creative freedom but less direction. The structure that had pushed me to balance music, work, and studies was gone. During this period of searching, I turned increasingly to literature, immersing myself in everything from Symbolist poetry to philosophy. Like music had been for me, reading became a form of catharsis and connection—a way to articulate complex feelings and bridge different worldviews.
-
This deepening literary engagement, combined with my experiences in music, led me back to graduate school where I found unexpected connections between Victorian literature and contemporary culture. My research focused on Oscar Wilde's theories of dandyism and their echoes in rock music, examining how artists from Mick Jagger to David Bowie used performance to challenge social norms.
The rigorous structure of academic life provided the perfect container for exploring these ideas, allowing me to transform my scattered observations about gender, performance, and identity into a coherent framework that still informs my approach to communication and storytelling today.
-
Today, whether I'm developing content strategy or analyzing cultural trends, I draw on these parallel streams of influence. Music and literature remain essential tools in my work, informing how I approach everything from brand storytelling to cultural commentary. The DIY spirit of punk rock, the transgressive play of dandyism, and the analytical rigor of academic research all shape how I think about authenticity, performance, and communication in our digital age.

I have over a decade of experience as a touring musician, having performed across 40 states and released two full-length albums. My musical background spans from punk and indie rock to experimental composition, and continues to inform my approach to creative work and storytelling.
-
I've led content initiatives across 4+ languages and 60+ countries at People2.0, driven by a deep fascination with how language shapes culture and communication. My personal language journey—studying Spanish, Russian, French, and Latin—has taught me that every language carries its own worldview, humor, and ways of connecting. This multilingual curiosity directly informs my approach to global content strategy: I work closely with regional teams and cultural consultants to ensure our messaging doesn't just translate words, but truly resonates with local values, communication styles, and cultural nuances. Whether it's understanding why certain metaphors don't cross borders or how formality levels shift between cultures, I believe effective global content requires both strategic frameworks and genuine cultural empathy.
-
My path from musician to content strategist wasn't linear but rather an evolution of storytelling across different mediums. The skills I developed in music—understanding audience engagement, crafting narratives, and managing creative projects—translated naturally into content strategy and brand development.
-
Beyond my professional work in content strategy, I write creative nonfiction, cultural criticism, and personal essays. My academic background in literature and gender studies often informs my writing, particularly when exploring themes of identity, performance, and cultural transformation.
-
While I'm not currently touring, music remains an active part of my creative practice. I continue to compose and occasionally perform, viewing it as essential to my broader creative work rather than a separate pursuit.
